At Home with Nikki Arevalo

What are you looking forward to today?

I’m looking forward to making my sequence for my next class, making my playlist (one of the funnest parts of the job), and filming a yoga class. I love that a lot of teachers and studios have been generously sharing yoga online and I’m grateful to be able to do that too. I'm also excited to receive another care package from my parents consisting of homemade food & some fresh fruits & vegetables.

What are your daily rituals?

It’s been a long (and unexpected!) journey to get here but I’ve become a morning person just in the past few months so I love starting my day at around 6am, having a cup of coffee, jade rolling, and listening to podcasts. I fast every other day so in the mornings I keep myself busy (and my mind off food) by practicing yoga, doing a bit of work, or doing macrame.

What are your realizations at home?

With all the extra time I have, I’ve finally been able to start learning/doing things that I’ve been putting off for when I have “more time”. I’ve realized that was just an excuse and that I should be more conscious about how I choose to spend my time by filling it with things that matter to me and support the life that I want to live.

How are you nurturing your passions?

Being part of a wellness/fitness community definitely inspires me as I’m always learning. I’ve been spending way more time on my mat now - taking classes, creating sequences, teaching classes. Aside from fitness, I’ve finally started with macrame which has been so relaxing (for the most part - you do need a lot of patience). It's been really satisfying to create something with my own hands.
